This course offers a contextual and thematic study of the Johannine writings in the New Testament (Book of Revelation excluded). The study will include introductory remarks on the historicity, composition, authorship, date etc. that pertain to the contextual understanding of the text. Our journey through the Gospel shall touch upon the significance and uniqueness in relation to the Synoptic accounts. We will also discuss the major themes in the Gospel in reference to its purpose statement.
The course will include a study of the occasion and purpose of the Epistles with special reference to John’s response from a historical and theological perspective.
